Did you know there was a Digital Media Alliance of Florida?

Neither did I. I knew about Florida Creatives and Doterati. Shows how much I know. The Digital Media Alliance of Florida is, well, I'll let them describe themselves:
Digital Media Alliance Florida is a non-profit industry association connecting Florida's Digital Media, Arts and Entertainment companies, institutions and industry professionals, and providing for the continuing growth, development and worldwide recognition of Florida's Digital Media, Arts and Entertainment industry.
I know you theatre and arts folk MIGHT be thinking, "What does this have to do with arts and culture?"

Em, everything.

The economy sucks and arts leaders in Orlando have chimed in on this blog in the last week to share their thoughts on the situation. Arts orgs are gonna have to do many things to stay alive: advertise/market (and there is a difference), branch out into other mediums (why not film that original play ad sell it online?) and businesses (why shouldn't a theatre director get paid to sit in on a brainstorming session? Ask Beth Marshall about that company she works for.) All of these things require self-education which can be sped up by learning from those who already know, and hiring folks in this "other" industry" to do some of the work for you.

So, there's my pitch. And here's an opportunity to meet these folks October 9th, 6:30pm-8:30pm at some new fancy bar downtown called Ember.
