December 12, 2007: Interview with one of the Grandma Party
founders, Casey. Filmed and edited by me
Registration for one of only 35 booths at the next Grandma Party (December 21 at Stardust) is TONIGHT, October 21, 2008, 7pm, at Stardust, 1842 E. Winter Park Rd., Orlando, FL 32803. Here are the rules as written by one of the organizers:
Grandma Party Bazaar (part six) will be a-happenin’ on the shortest day of 2008, Sunday December 21st at Stardust from about 10am until magic hour and beyond.
And you (yes you!!!!!) can be a very special part of it!
How? Well listen up….
First of all I want to express how a-mazing its been watching Grandma Party grow grow grow since the first bazaar in December 2005. Every time I am more and more impressed with the things that everyone is making and doing. So thank you thank you thank you for being so crafty and motivated and awwwwwwsooooome!
However, I have also noticed that Grandma Party has drifted a bit from its original intention of being a gathering of artists and crafters selling their handmade goods.
In an effort to bring us back to that I have a few guidelines and suggestions for possible vendors. Check it out:1. All vendors (for the most part, see below) MUST be selling handcrafted items. This can be anything you want as long as you MAKE it. Or if your friends make it, that’s ok too.So now you know. And if you are down with it all you can sign up for a booth this coming TUESDAY OCTOBER 21ST 7PM AT STARDUST. There will be room for 35 vendors. You must must must MUST be there if you want to be a vendor. Even if we are best friends and you have been a vendor at every bazaar and you assume I know you want to be a vendor. I assume nothing for no one. No exceptions except for a few, all of which must be approved by me BEFORE TUESDAY OCTOBER 21ST AT 7PM. (Send a pleading email to gmaparty@gmail.com if you must.)
2. I do realize that creating beautiful vintage collections is an art in itself, and the truth is that people like buying vintage clothes. That being said I will allow 3 vintage dealers. Other vendors may have a small collection of vintage at their booths as well, so long as it is NOT the majority of what they are selling.
3. Your old stuff (old clothes, books, movies, etc…) is NOT allowed UNLESS it has been artistically altered. If you have old stuff that you are looking to get rid of donate it to the rummage pile or have a yard sale.
4. Interactive booths are highly encouraged!!!!! At past bazaars this has included the photo booth, songs while you wait, youtube video upload booth, tarot, henna, massage…. And in the future could include awesome things like a kissing booth, art projects for kids, face painting, collaborative art, and who knows what else.
5. If you intend on raising money for a charity or doing volunteer work through your booth please let us know. This is super awesome and we will most likely be into advertising your cause.
Please bring the following with you when you come to sign up:1.CASH for your booth. Cost is sliding scale from $25 - $50. While we want the price to remain low and inclusive, Grandma Party is trying to grow. Anything you can afford to donate above the $25 base price will be appreciated tremendously. Think about how much money you have made at bazaars past, or how much you expect to make, and give accordingly. Also please remember that all vendors are responsible for providing their own table, chairs and shade. Each booth can occupy up to a 10x10 space maximum so please make sure the dimensions of your tent do not exceed this.
2. A sample or photograph of your work.
3. Information about your booth, preferably typed or very legibly written. This should include: Name of your booth, name/email/phone number of everyone who will be at your booth, a short (one or two sentences) description of your booth, and what kind of shade you intend to have (tent, umbrella, teepee…).
