Mad Cow was in talks in 2007 with Christine Ebersole for the role of Mrs Lovett in their collaborative performance of Sweeny Todd coming in March. I confirmed this with her peeps. Now out of the blue they've got Faith Prince doing the role.
Either way, this is huge for Orlando. And I think either one of them should take Mad Cow's original Lovett, Laura Hodos, with them to Broadway when the 2-night run ends.
Big props to Florida Theatrical Association for fronting the $5,000 to bring Mrs Prince in. Now someone fess up: why the casting change? Did FTA demand Prince and not Ebersole as a condition of the free cash? Did Ebersole balk when they told her they didn't have her $5k? Is she still reeling over her experience at the Parliament House in 2008? Enquiring minds want to know.
