Review: Jack and the Beanstalk
Writer/Photographer: Tisse Mallon

The production of "Jack and the Beanstalk" by The City of Orlando Puppetroupe was absolutely wonderful. It was a twist on the normal storyline and all characters (10, I think) and the music (kazoo and banjo) are played by one multi-tasking puppeteer, David Stephens.

The audience of children and their parents was thoroughly amused by the mixture of silly jokes, fun melodies, and interactive "spell casting" shout-outs. Stephens spoke about puppets after the show and encouraged the audience to try their hand at making a dog puppet.

My appreciation of the talent involved in bringing a show like this to life took on a new level when I was informed that David Stephens did the show with his right elbow fractured and chipped, due to a fall the morning before the show.
