Facebook's 25 things meme: fun with notes

ReadWriteWeb says Facebook finally passed MySpace in traffic to become the top online social network. Traffic rose 15% on the site in January. And that "25 Random Things About Me" thing that went around in January on Facebook had a part to play in it:
"According to the latest data from Compete, the '25 Random Things About Me' meme has not only given us access to a plethora of random facts about people we barely know, but this digital fad has also been good for Facebook. According to the latest data from Compete, four times more people than usual visited the 'Notes' section on Facebook in January. Compete estimates that close to 20 million users used 'Notes' in January, while only about 4 million used it in October 2008."
Good to know for those of you using Facebook to market your arts projects. And with Fringe coming up in May, we'll be bombarded with Facebook marketing here in Orlando, both good and bad, from artists and others. Keep your message relevant and in the right spot. Notes might be a place to explore on Facebook if you haven't done so.

Remember though, that no matter how much "Notes" may feel like blogging (it even has comments) those notes don't collect somewhere for folks to find them later down the road. So save a copy of your notes and think about putting them on your permanent blog elsewhere.
