Dark Sky Festival in Harmony

6th Annual Dark Sky Festival at Harmony: Stargazing, unique exhibits, informative speakers, astronomers, scientists, a Cosmic Kids Zone and food in Harmony, Florida (Osceola County; halfway between Walt Disney World and Melbourne Beach), a town designed with dark sky friendly public lighting as well as other measures intended to conserve natural resources. Speakers include:

Derek Demeter, Director of SCC's Planetarium, will discuss the basics of astronomy while hosting StarTalk LIVE!

George Fleenor, a representative of the Florida section of the International Dark Sky Association, will discuss practical ways to control wasted lighting at home.

Robert Vogel, of the Central Florida Astronomical Society (CFAS), will explain how to select a telescope or binoculars and how to get started in astronomy as a hobby. /p>

Dr. Terry Oswalt, a professor of space science and astronomy at the Florida Institute of Technology will orient the audience to the sky by pointing out the planets, stars and constellations overhead.

Jonn Serrie will perform. Jonn is a composer of space music, a genre of ambient Electronic music, and New Age music. He has recorded at least eighteen albums and worked on various projects for Lucasfilm, IMAX, NASA, the United States Navy, and CNN.
