If you missed the first Ignite Orlando on March 4, 2009, yes, you should feel sad. The next Ignite Orlando is Wednesday, June 24th from 6:30pm to 10:00pm at Slingapours on Wall Street Plaza (17 Wall Street Plaza, Orlando, FL | MAP).
Registration & the call for speakers is now open.
Ignite Orlando, like Pecha Kucha, has two parts. The first part involves 16 presentations which are 5 minutes long and each contain 20 slides which rotate automatically every 15 seconds. The talks can be on any topic from politics, to computers, to freelance, to passion, to dance, to nerd rock. All the talks are selected ahead of time.
The second part involves some sort of hands on contest. Last time they broke into teams to see who could build the strongest bridge out of tape, straws, and paperclips.
If you want to see how awesome Ignite can be, they recommend you watch a few videos on the official O'Reilly Ignite video podcast. You'll find talks on The Secret History of Fonts, Hydrogen and Helium, Samuari Swords, and even Cyborg Anthropology.
