July 10th through July 26th, Orlando’s Loch Haven Park will be host to performances by international puppet companies from Spain, France, Canada, and Mexico. Heather Henson (IBEX Puppetry), producer of the Orlando Puppet Festival, is excited to present the Central Florida community with its first International Puppet Festival. IBEX Puppetry will partner with The Orlando Repertory Theatre during the REP’s annual Target Theatre Family Festival, as well as co-hosts MicheLee Puppets and Pinocchio’s Marionette Theatre. Performances (please see details below) will take place at The Orlando Repertory Theatre & The Orlando Shakespeare Theatre, located at 812 East Rollins St., Orlando FL.
The five international puppet companies were selected by The Center for Puppetry Arts and will perform at the 2009 National Puppetry Festival in Georgia before making their way to Central Florida. Festival Producer Heather Henson created the festival to bring this prestigious international talent to Central Florida. Heather Henson, president and artistic director of IBEX Puppetry, says, “I am thrilled to open the channels of internationally touring puppet companies to Orlando Florida. The vocabulary of puppetry transcends language and culture, speaking directly to the human soul. As a member of Union International de la Marionette (UNIMA), I am excited to provide opportunities for exchanges and encounters between puppet artists from the all over the world.”
