Social Marketing: Inspiring Change
In the leanest of times, how does an organization tackle the toughest of challenges – making a real impact as budgets tighten and needs expand? Peter Mitchell, chief creative officer at the national social marketing firm Salter>Mitchell / Marketing for Change, offers one set of strategies that leverage what may be your greatest untapped asset: Your existing “customers.” Using examples from his firm’s recent work, Mitchell spends time describing Salter>Mitchell’s interrupt-interact-engage approach, which uses tools new (web) and old (real world) to capture an audience’s attention, interact with them, and recruit the most-interested to work for free. Mitchell was the original marketing director of the truth anti-tobacco campaign, won an Emmy for the Fifth Guy campaign encouraging hygiene for the Florida Department of Health, and led the design of IHateHimSoMuch.com, an unusual approach to promoting stronger marriages.
