Congress for New Urbanism Orlando

Congress for New Urbanism Orlando's next meeting is Tuesday March 9, 2010 at 6pm (come @ 5:45 to order your drinks and socialize) at 310 Lakeside at 301 E. Pine Street, Orlando FL (between Pine and Central). A presentation called "Clearing Obstacles to Sustainable Development in Florida" will be given and a talkback led by Ted Brown.
We deal with a multi-layered regulatory environment that grew around conventional suburban development and as a result can be hostile to new urbanist development techniques. Ted Brown is a partner at Baker Hostetler and has been practicing law and working with developers in Florida since 1968 (http://www.bakerlaw.com/tedrbrown/). Mr. Brown will discuss some of the regulatory obstacles to sustainable, new urbanist development in the state of Florida, the complexity of different elements of sustainability that may have contradictory solutions and some of the coming changes from the federal and state level that have the potential to improve (or complicate) how our local governments can regulate new urbanist development.
