Fire Station 1, built in 1960, began demolition on April 29, 2010 to make way for portions of the new Dr Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Orlando. Several political people made brief speeches in a quick ceremony which led to an anti-climactic demolition and hot dog feast. The Ocoee High School set up right where the crowd stood munching and played 1980s/90s R&B selections blaringly loud.
