The Green is the center of Orlando Fringe downtime. Its the great expanse of lawn situated between The Rep (Orlando's premiere multi-venue children's theatre factory) and the Orlando Shakespare Theatre (Free wifi. Haaaaay!). The Green is where people wander when they're waiting for a show to start, want to socialize or hand out flyers for people to throw into the trash. (Busking does NOT work in Orlando!)
We've got the round-up of food vendors who'll be parking their craptastic food trolleys in a circle around a gaggle of white lawn chairs in hopes people get hungry enough that they'll mistake their offerings for food and part ways with their cash.
Loving Hut
Vegan asian food, spring rolls, fried rice
They won "Best Food Vendor" in the 2009 Audience Choice Awards. Did you know at their main location on Colonial, if you are running low on cash, they will give you your meal for free?
Trent’s BBQ
BBQ ribs, chicken, pork, fries
Dunno if its as good as Four Rivers, but we're willing to try it. (And why is Four Rivers not here this year? They are the ultimate bbq.
Starbucks Coffee
This could work if they focus on just serving those banana-filled falvored smoothies for four bucks. You buy one of those then dump some of the vodka you brought with you from home in your purse and oila!
Kettle Korn
sugar coated popcorn in many flavors
These people have been peddling this stuff for years at Fringe, offering samples in dentist spit cups, to those who've never tried sweetened popcorn. The owners are always cozied up in their chair ignoring everyone and seemingly wondering why no one wants their product. I'll tell you. Its lame. (See Rhapsodic Bakery)
Pete’s Roadside Grill
cheese Steak, funnel cake, fried pbj, etc. Fried PB&J is a must-try. The rest sound carny but perhaps good eatin' on a drunken beer tent evening.
Mugshot Expresso
coffees, smoothies, fruit drinks. I'm not drinking coffee at 2pm in the sweltering heat of The Green unless I have to sober up. Smoothies and fruit drinks sound promising.
BJ Events
greek food, gyros, spinach pie, arepas. Arepas are not greek, but I love seeing that giant spinning meat wall they carve the gyro meat from. Always makes me think of a food court in North Carolina.
Elite Foods
Soul food, bbq, turnip greens, cornbread, sweet potato pie. Its pricy but worth it. Put some south in your mouth.
Winkles Concessions
Ice cream. How do you keep ice cream cold in the steaming sun? We'll find out. What do I have to do to bring the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck here?
Corky’s Hotdogs
Hotdogs, sausages, hot roast beef, candy. Basic carny food. Why don't people want to get creative with their offerings? Is it the economy? Can someone play around with their menu and bring Fringe some interesting food?
Franny’s Mobile Kitchen
Pizza, subs, nachos, corn dogs. Again, good for the drunken nights, but not so good when you just want a meal thats normal.
Raphsodic Co-op (sorry no photo)
Vegan baked goods. Local and vegan and gooood. I hope Orlando gets introduced to this high-quality brand new bakery at Fringe and then becomes regulars at its location on Mills. If you're going to get fat at Fringe, get fat eating their food. The Rest
Granny's Lemonade
BareFoot Wines
FUZE Energy
Linda Gales | burgers, fries, chicken wings
Fringe Beer Tent (serviced by City Beverages)
