Sep. 10 – Oct. 1, 2010: Distilled to the Essence
Artists: Chris Beck and Kimberly Clayton
Opening reception: 6:00 – 9:00pm, Friday, Sep. 10, 2010
With a nod to the art of found objects, Chris Beck and Kim Clayton both use cast off elements to create artwork with an iconic Southern flavor. Clayton uses salvaged vintage elements in her paintings on wood panels. Beck works in salvaged steel, welding and painting old scraps to resemble clothes. His party frocks, bell-bottom jeans, and Polo shirts become dimensional wall hangings. Cost: free

Oct. 9, 2010 | 10am – 4pm: Halloween Art Show
Cost: $5 | Artists: Jorge de Rojas, Melissa Menzer, Dianne Waldron, additional artists TBA
For the second year, Jeanine Taylor Folk Art will produce the only Halloween Art Show on the East Coast. Regional artists will be offering a wide selection of handmade collectibles and art in an environment of wicked delight! Included in the entry fee is a meet and greet with the artists along with spooktacular refreshments.

Cost: free | Jeanine Taylor brings back her enchanting seasonal show. The historic downtown Sanford gallery will be transformed into a shopping wonderland of one-of-a-kind art and gifts. Trunk shows will give patrons the opportunity to meet visiting artists throughout the run of the show.

Cost: Free | Get a dose of holiday fun with sculptor Melissa Menzer as she presents her spirited collection of antique assemblages. Artist: Melissa Menzer

7pm-9pm, Thu. Jan. 13, 2010 | Expressions in Felt Lecture/Trunk Show
Cost: $20, includes gourmet wine and cheese reception | Nationally known fiber artist Lisa Klakulak will present a slide show featuring her body of work and an overview of the felting process. Klakulak has spent her career developing techniques that turn wool into works of art, from vessels and teapots to brooches and hats. Artists: Lisa Klakulak.

5pm-9:00pm, Fri. Jan. 14 and 9am – 5pm, Sat. and Sun. Jan. 15 and 16, 2010 | Sculptural Felt Jewelry and Wearables Workshop
Cost: $300 for 20 hours of instruction with a master instructor; $45 materials fee includes Merino wool fleece, imported Moroccan olive oil soap, agitation tools, needle tool and foam. | Create eye-catching adornments with needle and wet felting skills taught by a master of fiber art. The versatile medium of felt will be explored in this intensive workshop beginning with blending colors and followed by creating felt forms, felt appliqué, stitching and surface embellishments. Jan. 28 – Feb. 20, 2011 | The Bone Show

Cost: free | Artists: Butch Anthony | Alabama artist Butch Anthony returns to the area’s premier folk art gallery with a twist on his collection of salvaged treasures. Anthony appropriates bleached out and time-worn animal bones and skulls in a wide assortment of sculptures, wall hangings, vessels, and other décor. With surprising elegance, the bones are often wrapped in hogwire or dangle in suspension with a dash of quirkiness. He is garnering national attention after a segment on the History Channel’s American Pickers show and coverage of his hand built log home on the family’s 80-acre compound that appeared in the New York Times Home and Garden section.

10am – 5pm, Sat. Feb. 26, 2011 | The heART of Winter Gone South
Cost: free | This gathering of artists will celebrate the hand made and heart felt with a selection of art and gifts to please the eye and lift the spirits. Held annually in upstate New York, The heART of Winter event draws crowds who have a passion for collectibles and unique altered art pieces. Jeanine Taylor Folk Art is pleased to host this creative bonanza in their first venture down south. Artists: Selected artists from EarthAngels Toys, including Debbee Thibeau, Jennifer Lanne, and Laurie Meseroll. Additional artists TBA.
