TheDailyCity.com Mobile Art Show #8 | Audience Choice Awards

April 15, 2010 | TheDailyCity.com Mobile Art Show #8 (What is this?) was a preview of the art to be handed out a month later at the second annual TheDailyCiy.com Audience Choice Awards at the Orlando Fringe Festival. There were 29 awards total at the May ceremony, with about half on display at the April Mobile Art show. The collection of local art was curated by Jeremy Seghers.

The show was a way to promote the awards, the artists and the Orlando Fringe. "Mos folks who stopped by the show had never even heard of the festival. So we without planning on it, became ambassadors of the Orlando Fringe. Glad to do it," said TheDailyCity.com Editor Mark Baratelli.

"I wanted a way to get the art into peoples' faces to promote the artists. They gave of their time for us by creating or donating their work, so its only fair we show off their pieces in as many places as possible. Downtown is a great place to start!" said Baratelli.

Mark chose the mutant Frankenstein toy-monster named "Mister made by artist/puppeteer Jack Fields as a sort-of emblem of the show and placed an image of it on show posters and postcards. "I love Jack Field's work and was very grateful Jeremy got him involved. This piece I think represents the nature of the type of art Jeremy was going for in the show: odd, creative, fun, quirky. It definitely made everyone stop first thing when they entered the truck and play with it."

The pieces were all sizes. To standardize them, they were affixed to large frames, making the smaller pieces as visually important and sizable as the larger ones.

The affixing of the small art onto the large frames allowed smaller pieces to be hung next to large ones.

The use of red tape was Mark's idea. "I liked the white, black and red for visual impact. And I liked the un-classiness of the duct tape juxtapozed with the lovely art pieces.
