Got a hole in your schedule tonight where “fun” should be? Got a hole in your pocket where “money” should be? I’ve a solution – go and check out ‘The Iron Giant’ tonight at Lake Island Park in Winter Park.
Based on the novel by Ted Hughes, the film is set during the Cold War and therefore everyone has a severe case of the Red Terrors. Against this backdrop, a young boy discovers and then befriends the titular Iron Giant in the woods near his house.
And I should probably mention that it’s animated, features voices from Vin Diesel (who, if you think about it, does sound like a robot), Harry Connick, Jr. and Jennifer Aniston. The film, which came out in 1999, was directed by Brad Bird, who would go on to work for Pixar and helm the stone-cold classics ‘The Incredibles’ and ‘Ratatouille’, so you can rely on it being terrific.
