Nov 23, 2010 | Did you miss artist Chris Scala’s piece "the puzzle" this Fall? He's back with a brand new piece! ‘The trailer’ is on exhibit in north Central Park in downtown Winter Park through January 20, 2011. The sculpture is constructed entirely of stainless steel wire fabric and is a registered vehicle. The work appears alternately solid or partially transparent depending on the direction from which it is lit. The artwork examines the nature and perception of privacy. An otherwise secure space is exposed.

Among the furniture, clothing and fixtures inside the artwork is a desk. Every ten days on the 1st, 10th and 20th of the month the arrangements of objects on the desk will change. Each composition reflects the contemplation of a different idea.

The trailer has served as a stage for several performances designed by the artist Scala. Central to these events is that the actors must ignore any stimulus outside the boundary of the artwork. Unaware of this criteria, a member of the public inevitably will end up screaming and banging on the shell in an attempt to be acknowledged by the occupants. Two impromptu performances will occur in December.

The sculpture will be the subject of two radio programs inspired by the artwork to be broadcast through ‘the trailer’. On Sunday, Nov. 28th at 6-8pm, DJ Lance Parker’s show “Jazz in the Bible Belt” and on Monday, Dec. 2 at 8-10 am, DJ Josh Nye’s show ‘Kindergarden’ will be heard from within the sculpture at the installation site in Central Park.
