Eyeless Cat Adopted In 24 Hours Update

We offered up a fifty buck donation to Orange County Animal Services if someone would adopt a 6 year old eyeless cat that had just come in off the streets. Within 24 hours, we got the cat adopted and our $50 donation turned to $400 due to the generosity of our readers. The eyeless cat's name is Smokey.

We thought everything was good, and then something unexpected happend. Smokey tested FIV positive during his pre-adoption exam. FIV is a fatal disease and highly-contagious. However, just like with HIV in humans, FIV positive cats can live a long, healthy life in the right environment and with the right care.

The original adopter already had a cat, so she was not allowed to adopt Smokey. The Orange County Animal Services program manager of administration, Andy, just happened to have an FIV positive cat already. That cat's name is Saki. According to Andy, she has never been able to have a playmate because of her FIV positive status.

UNTIL NOW!

Andy spent some time with Smokey and after some deliberation, decided to adopt him as a playmate and companion for Saki. He took him home last Friday and he and Saki are doing great, according to his owner. Andy named him Milton after John Milton, the blind British author who wrote Paradise Lost.
