Cole Nesmith has a new project called Tree of Light that United Ars gave him a $1,000 grant for. He's trying to raise $2,500 more for the project via a Kickstarter campaign. Click the link to donate and read about it below.
The Piece :
The "Tree of Light" will be constructed from recycled, reclaimed and local wood and will stand over 20 feet tall. Lights with a pull switch will be hanging from each of the tree branches. People are invited to interact with the piece by turning the lights on and off. The hope is that we will help participants investigate their contribution to the creativity of their city through the medium of light.
The Philosophy :
The project itself is all about connectivity. The ideation process is the result of a collection of artists who asked how we can use our creativity to help bring beauty to our city. Our desire is not only collaboration with one another but with those viewing the project. The piece invites individuals from simply being spectators to participants.
The Location :
The tree will be placed for a period of time in a high traffic area of downtown Orlando as a locally created public art piece and then - depending on funding - set up in other cities.
The Funds :
The money raised here will go to pay for the supplies required to create this project : wood, bulbs, sockets, electrical, projection, hardware and other supplies.
What if we raise extra money?
If the goal is exceeded, we commit to continue to use the funds to create public art pieces that will invite the people of Orlando into a deeper experience and expression of creativity.
