Just got home from this morning's big Orlando Calling lineup announcement, which was held at the Gibson Showroom downtown. Festival Republic's Melvin Benn (in pic) and Mayor Buddy Dyer were on hand to talk up the festival and announce the bands.

As you'll see from the list, one day is very indie-rock friendly, and the other is more classic-rock/country-friendly. There's not much crossover appeal between the two days, so I can't imagine there would be much demand for two-day tickets. During his speech, Benn mentioned that this would be "An American music music festival, crossing the American genres", and a quick scan of the list reveals, as far as I know, only one act not from these United States (Gogol Bordello). So that's interesting. Also, the line up does cross the American genres pretty well, though hip hop is only featured once. That said, it's the MFin' Roots, so I'm okay with it. They rule.

Benn announced that in addition to the festival itself, at the Citrus Bowl and surrounding fields, there'll be a lot of related stuff going on downtown, as they do in Chicago for Lollapalooza. No more info about that, yet, though.

Something else that's interesting: all the smaller stages will be closed each day before the main stage headliner starts, so your choice is: see The Killers or Bob Seger, or go home. This is pretty unusual: usually at festivals you have more than one option as to who you see.
