Free Events For 45th Anniversary of N.O.W. at Winter Park Institute

The Winter Park Institute at Rollins College will celebrate the 45th anniversary of the founding of the National Organization for Women (NOW) with various events during October 28–29. The free events are open to the public and feature activists who played significant roles in the women’s progressive movement and who can speak to the future of feminism.


Speakers include author Gloria Steinem, former Congresswoman Patricia Schroeder and Rollins College alumna and co-founder of NOW Muriel Fox, along with other key veteran feminist activists. With 500,000 active members, NOW represents the largest U.S. organization of feminist activists working toward increased awareness, political activism and equality.

“NOW involves the nationwide collaboration of women who unite around a common vision of gender equality and social change,” said Gail Sinclair, executive director of Winter Park Institute at Rollins College. “We are eager to hear our speakers’ perspectives and personal views concerning the significant milestones and future expectations of the feminist movement.”

Rollins Feminist Forum — “Still Moving That Mountain: Feminism, Past and Future”

The Rollins Feminist Forum features a conversation between activist and author Gloria Steinem and former Congresswoman and activist Patricia Schroeder, panel discussions highlighting 12 leading representatives from Veteran Feminists of America and student-led presentations of oral history projects.

Guerilla Girls on Tour — “Feminists are Funny”

The production features a collection of skits, songs, posters and parodies addressing women’s issues. TheGuerrilla Girls on Tour is a New York City-based touring theater company that creates original comedies celebrating women and their history — past, present and future.
