"Steve Blass on Baseball: A Pirates’ Life," will be presented at the Orange County Regional History Center Saturday, January 21, 2012, 6-8 p.m.

WHO:   Steve Blass, former teammate and close friend of Roberto Clemente. Blass posted a 103-76 record with 896 strikeouts and a 3.63 ERA in 1,597 innings pitched during his 10-year career with the Pittsburgh Pirates. In the 1971 World Series against the Baltimore Orioles, he finished second in the voting for World Series MVP behind Clemente. He is currently a broadcast announcer for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

WHAT: Blass helps the History Center celebrate the opening of the Smithsonian exhibition, Beyond Baseball: The Life of Roberto Clemente, with a showing of the rare 1974 film “Roberto Clemente: A Touch of Royalty,” that chronicles the contributions of Clemente. Hear amusing anecdotes straight from Blass about playing alongside Clemente and other baseball legends, as well as personal stories from this “clubhouse cut-up” about five decades with this major league club.
