Orlando Science Center Special Extended Hours and Refractor Telescope

For a limited time, the Orlando Science Center will remain open til 9pm on Fridays and Saturday nights June 8-28, 2012. Guests will have more time to explore four levels of exhibits, check out a giant screen film in the Dr. Phillips CineDome or head up to the Crosby Observatory. June 29 to August 18, guests will enjoy the retro cool and audio power of laser light shows when hours are pushed until 10 p.m.
The Science Center’s extended hours coincide with the start of summer night sky viewing in the Crosby Observatory. Each Friday and Saturday night through August 18, visitors can witness the wonders of the night sky as they observe moons, planets and other astronomical events using our refractor telescope – one of the largest available to the public in Florida! Astronomy experts and volunteers will be on hand to make sure you get the best view possible. And on the observation desk, check out an unobstructed view of the beautiful downtown Orlando skyline. Whether you are gazing through the giant refractor or one of the smaller telescopes, the Crosby Observatory offers a stellar evening for amateur astronomers of all ages.
Then prepare to have your mind blown on June 29, when laser light shows return to the Dr. Phillips CineDome! With 28,000 watts of pulse-pounding sound and dazzling laser effects, there’s no better way to enjoy your favorite classic rock hits! Experience laser lights backing up artists like The BeatlesPink Floyd and new this summer, They Might Be Giants. Feast your eyes and your ears on this electrifying offering Friday and Saturday evenings beginning at 6 p.m. Laser shows will run Friday and Saturday nights from June 29 to August 18.
Guests will also enjoy the latest exhibit at the Science Center that explores the games people play. Developed by artist Nacho Rodrigues Bach, PLAY is a dynamic blend of art, music, philosophy and science. Composed of giant interactive games, visitors are literally immersed in a multi-sensory experience as they become life-sized foosball players, pile up giant dominoes, step in concert with others on a larger-than-life backgammon board or roll around on gigantic billiard balls. All of the games help visitors explore friendship, collaboration and teamwork firsthand. Musical compositions and vibrant art, created specifically for each area, enrich the experiences.
General admission to the Science Center is $17 for adults; $16 for seniors and students; and $12 for kids (ages 3-11). Tickets include access to all the Science Center’s exhibits, giant screen films and live programs. Come after 7 p.m. and enjoy reduced admission. Make a night of it and experience giant screen films (then laser shows after June 29), observatory visits and exhibit exploration for only $13 for adults; $12 for seniors and students; and $8 for kids (ages 3-11).
