The Holocaust Center in Maitland recently launched a nine
part series on religion. The Religion
101 series was created to help bring about better knowledge of other
faiths. Pam Kancher, Executive Director
of the Holocaust Center, recognizes that there are differing claims from
various religions but that the series will hopefully help bring about an
understand because such an understanding of these religions “can’t be based on
myths, rumors and YouTube.” Pastor James
Coffin, Executive Director of the Interfaith Council of Central Florida and
co-sponsor of the Religion 101 series, explained the series “make it easy and
fun for the busy person to become much more knowledgeable about the teachings
and practices of the various faith traditions, and in that respect, the program
was a resounding success.”
The first presentation was held on September 13th
and was led by Zen abbot Claudia Schippert on an overview of the history and
beliefs of Buddhism. The next
presentation in the series will be an overview of Islam with Imam Ashiq Kermali
will be held October 11 at 7 PM at the Holocaust Center. Reservations are
recommended, and no admission is charged. For more information see www.holocaustedu.org or
