Taps From Scratch Grand Opening in Audubon Park

The grand opening for Taps From Scratch (1809 East Winter Park Road, Orlando, Florida 32803), a Winter Park, FL based company is September 29, 2012 (which is also Zombiefest Weekend in Audubon Park). Hours of operation are Mondays through Saturdays 2:00pm to 10:00pm most days and brewing classes and instruction by appointment only.

Taps from Scratch had their soft opening on September 15, 2012 with 120 friends and family with food from SwedeDish food truck, music by DJ Artemis Prime and a large selection of homebrewed craft beers on 13 offical Taps From Scratch taps.

The new retail space features custom Taps From Scratch Pub Hubs for bottomless sampling when you purchase a custom engraved glass and also provides home brewing equipment for rent. The brewing equipment is only available to members of the Taps from Scratch's private home brewers club. Visitors will get a preview of Florida's first PicoBrewery, Winter Park Beer Company (WPBC) and get a chance to taste future beer releases as well as experience the art of home brewing on the one barrel brew system.

David Brunson, owner of Taps From Scratch and founder and Head Brew Master of Winter Park Beer Company, said “we wanted to start out slow and build our relationship with the community before we opened the Winter Park Beer Company at this location. We wanted to introduce ourselves and open our doors so people could learn a little more about what we do with Taps From Scratch and possibly join our private Home Brewers club where you have access to using our one barrel system, ferment in our lager and ale units as well as carbonate your beer with our CO2. You will receive a custom engraved glass and lanyard upon joining the club as well as discounted bottomless tap tours of our unfiltered homebrew.”

According to David the plan is to feature fully functioning Pub-Hubs at the retail location to allow customers "the experience of owning and operating their own tap at their own pace". "Our custom 6 ounce brandy snifters allows the customer to sample all of our beers on tap and they get to keep the glass." All beer is brewed on premise at the location.

The new retail location is located across the street from Stardust Video and Coffee, whose parking lot is the home to the Audubon Park Community Farmers Market every Monday night from 6pm to 10pm. David thinks Taps From Scratch and WPBC will fit well in this growing diverse community, “From the beginning we have envisioned this being a community and neighborhood brewery and we want to be as involved as possible in supporting community initiatives and being known for not just great beer but for helping to improve this neighborhood. There are a lot of well-known and stable small businesses in Audubon and we hope to form relationships and build partnerships with as many of them as possible. The tradition of entrepreneurship and small business is alive and well in Audubon Park and we are excited to be a part of that.”
