Microsoft Surface Launch at Florida Mall in Orlando

By Ken Storey

Friday October 26, 2012 On the same day Apple fans could pre-order the new iPad and iPad Mini in an Apple store just a few feet away, Microsoft fans got their first opportunity to purchase the Microsoft Surface in Florida's only Microsoft store. This all took place in Orlando at The Florida Mall (8001 South Orange Blossom Trail, Orlando, FL 32809).

The tablet, unlike it's iPad rival, has ports, USB and HD video out and a micro SDXC card slot. It runs Windows RT that shares a number of features with Windows 8. The tablet is $499 for a 32GB, for $100 more you can get a black cover. The 64GB is $699 and comes with a black cover. Other covers run $110 and one with moving keys runs $129.99.

One unique thing with this tablet is the Windows RT which is the first mainstream Windows version to include a full-featured Office productivity suite, Office Home & Student 2013. There has been a demand for this to be a built in program, Microsoft Office is actually the most requested tablet app.

The tablet also will run the thousands of apps from the Windows App Store but will not run programs from Windows 7 or earlier. A tablet to run all of these will be released soon.
