Obama cancels UCF Visit, Leaves Town Abruptly

By Ken Storey

How quickly things in politics change.  Just a few hours ago we reported on UCF prepping for Obama's visit today, the one that had already been pushed up due to Hurricane Sandy.  That visit has now been cancelled.  The following statement was issued;

""Due to deteriorating weather conditions in the Washington area, the president will not attend today's campaign event in Orlando.  The president will return to the White House to monitor the preparations for and early response to Hurricane Sandy."

Former President Clinton is still scheduled to speak at UCF.  The President is now on his way back to Washington D.C.  Currently many local roads are closed as the Presidential motorcade passes through town, causing major delays across the region.  The motorcade has just now arrived at the airport and the president is now on Air Force One but the traffic delays are still in place.

The hurricane has caused 18 flights cancelled out of OIA, along with 52 in-bound flights cancelled. Thousands of flights worldwide have been cancelled due to the storm.  While we have passed the wrath of the storm but our neighbors to the north are just now experiencing the storm.  Landfall expected late tonight or early tomorrow morning.  Sandy is the largest hurricane to ever impact the American mainland and is expected to cause major power outages and delays up and down the east coast of the country.
