Does City of Orlando Have a Municipal App? Could We Get One?

On Wednesday December 12, 2012 we noticed a broken 'Do Not Enter' sign leading into a parking garage at the corner of E. Jackson Street and Orange Ave.

Though the sign is there for a private parking garage, the sign is attached to a city-owned pole. So, we called the City of Orlando Public Works Transportation Engineering "Signs and Pavement Markings" department.
If you see damaged signs, you can contact them three ways:
  • Call their 24/7 hotline at 407-246-2020
  • Email them at OrlandoTMC@cityoforlando.net
  • Fax them at 407-249-4606
We'd like to see a smart phone app that lets you report things like broken signs as well as interact with all the city departments.  San Francisco's Muni 311 App allows locals to do just that, from reporting potholes to adopting a dog. Boston's City Hall To Go is an app-in-your-face that travels neighborhoods giving locals direct access to city services. Twitter was a helpful way for us to let LYNX know about a trash-covered bus stop. We wrote the story, the City of Orlando retweeted it and tagged LYNX in the RT. LYNX emailed us and took care of the issue.

The City of Orlando does have two three apps we know of:

As of the writing of this post, we are unaware of the City of Orlando having a general app to report such things. But maybe we just didn't look hard enough? If you know of a company that is working on an app like the one we're describing, let us know in the comments.
