100 Montaditos Waterford Lakes Town Center | Teensy Sammiches at Teensy Prices

One of the dollar sammiches. Sausage and bread. Hmmm.

Orlando has its first 100 Montaditos at 417 N. Alafaya Trail, Waterford Lake Town Center, E03, Orlando, Fl 32828. This place has 100 teensy sammiches the size of half a hot dog bun. You can buy one as cheap as a dollar all the way up to around $3, perfect for the college student on a budget or a Scrooge-like website owner so stingy with his money he'll drive 20 minutes to eat a buck sammich.

Here's the official description:
  • 100 Montaditos is a very unique place that represents the spanish lifestyle and gastronomy where you can enjoy the best of spanish kitchen in a relaxing and friendly environment. Inspired in the atmosphere of a typical Spanish tavern, you will encounter a variety of traditional montaditos served on crunchy, freshly-baked Spanish rolls; filled with such typical Mediterranean ingredients as Serrano ham, Spanish tortilla, chorizo sausage and Manchego cheese; and seasoned with such traditional Mediterranean ingredients as olive oil, garlic, onions, lemon, tomato sauce and ali oli. As our name implies, 100 varieties of fillings are available on a choice of white, whole wheat or ciabatta rolls.
  • In addition to our main menu item, the Montadito, we also offer Spanish staples such as patatas bravas (potatoes in a spicy red sauce) and olives in addition to french fries with four dipping sauces (ketchup, salsa brava and ali oli) and five varieties of salads.
  • 100 Montaditos is not only a place where you can enjoy of the best Spanish flavors, but also, hang-out and have some drinks with friends and family in an exciting environment tasting Spain’s famed Mahou beer or other typical thirst-quenchers, including red and white wines, claras (beer blended with lemon-lime soda) sangrĂa (wine punch made with chopped fruit) and tintos de verano (red wine blended with lemon-lime soda). Wines on the menu include Cava, a traditional sparking white wine from Spain’s Catalonia region.
I first tried these hunger nuggets in Miami in 2012 while The Daily City team (Ken, me and a Chevrolet convertible) covered Art Basel Miami Beach 2012. I wanted to try it there because (1) I'd seen the "coming soon" signs in Waterford Lakes Town Center while while setting up TheDailyCity.com Night Markets two months in a row and (2) I wasn't aware that location had opened yet.

For the first-timer, when you walk in, grab a menu, pick some sammiches from the 100 available, and you order them at the counter. Don't bother with the pencil and pad.

In Miami I bought the cheapest ones (see below). In Orlando, I did the same thing (see above). I must admit I didn't like them. I'm betting the more expensive ones have more filling fillings. The bread is good, though.

Below is what I had in Miami:

Looks pretty, right?

Free chips!

What the?
