Menotti's 'The Telephone' to be Complimented with Free Telephone Musuem Tours

By Ken Storey

Just days away from the sixth anniversary of his death Florida Opera Theatre will be celebrating Gian Carlo Menotti with the one-act operatic comedy The Telephone.  The 1947 English language opera was debuted as a double bill alongside of The Medium which the Florida Opera Theatre presented last year. L’Amour de Trois, or “The Telephone” deals with a man who wants to desperately to confess to a woman his love for her but a telephone keeps coming between him and his dreams, a story that in today's fast paced world is more relevant than ever. Eric Pinder, Director-In-Residence of Florida Opera Theatre, said "We will explore the ways that people communicate with each other using opera as our guide. But given the fact that "The Telephone" is a delightful comedy, don't expect any serious theories."  The evening will also include “A Musical Review of Ringing Proportions.”
To make the evening even more special evening the Telephone Museum will be offering tours going for an hour before each performance.  A reception in the gallery will follow all performances.
The opera takes place at the Germaine Marvel Building in downtown Maitland Saturday January 26th at 2pm, 7pm and Sunday January 27th at 2pm.
