Florida Department of Transportation made sure that the SunRail would be enjoyable both while on the train and while waiting for it by setting aside $6,500 for artwork to be displayed at each station allowing the municipalities to decide on what artwork they wish to represent their community at the station.
This week we get a glance of Winter Park's proposed art
concept. The piece, known as Tree
Whispers, will actually cost closer to $25,500 with the $19,00 difference being
paid for by a mix of city funds and fundraising, though the city may opt to go
with fewer panels to keep the cost down.
The artist, Diane Gillett Boswell, already has numerous pieces on
display around Central Florida, most notably at the Amway Center and the Eileen
Fisher store along Park Ave.
For the SunRail art proposal Boswell takes a modern approach
to the city's famed trees while also introducing a modern touch. Eight parallel panels at varied distance from
the eastern platform featuring photographic images of yellow flowering
trees. The panels, each the size of a
piece of plywood and elevated two feet of the ground, would be spread out over
a 8foot by 40foot area allowing for guests to walk amongst the pieces creating
a gateway into Central Park from the station.
