Mardi Gras at Universal is a family-friendly party with music, a parade, beads and fun. The parade is fun to watch with beautiful floats, stilt walkers, people jumping up to catch beads thrown to them from characters dressed in colorful costumes. There are four new floats based on this year's theme "Colorful Cultures Around The World". The floats are based on the Mexican Day of the Dead, the Chinese New Year, the elegance of India and the music of New Orleans

Here are pictures of some of the floats before the parade.

Food-lovers can enjoy authentic Cajun food such as spicy jambalaya, grilled andouille sausage, shrimp gumbo and more at the French Quarter Courtyard. I sampled delicious crawfish broil, grilled andouille sausage, shrimp gumbo and king cake prepared by Chef Steven Jayson.

Music is essential at every celebration. At the French Quarter Courtyard, bands from New Orleans play live music. On Saturdays and select nights from February 9 to April 20, music artists from various genres of pop, rock, country, hip hop perform live at the Music Plaza stage. Pop-rock band Lifehouse kicked off the Mardi Gras concert series with an amazing show playing songs from their new album such as "Gotta Be Tonight", "Between the Raindrops", "Right Back Home" and "Nobody Listen" and songs from their previous albums such as "You and Me", "Hanging By A Moment", "Halfway Gone", "Broken" and "Whatever It Takes".
