Is Disney Planning to Replace Pollo Campero With a New Restaurant of Their Own?

While the rumor mill for what will finally replace Pleasure Island has silent these last few months (or even years really) a bit of an odd rumor has popped up over on the WDW Magic forums. The rumor states that Disney chefs are holed up in the old Bonfamille's Cafe at the Port Orleans resort testing out recipes for a new Disney owned tex-mex restaurant that is planned to open at Downtown Disney near T-Rex. Disney has had a taco truck near House of Blues off and on over the last few months.

The rumor is interesting due to two parts. First, the only other Disney owned food option in all of Downtown Disney is Cap'n Jacks. Does this rumor mean that Disney will get back into the game of ownership itself or are these chefs helping an outside company development a menu unique to the Disney property? The second interesting item that this rumor causes is the location. Either this new tex-mex restaurant is planned for Pleasure Island where the margarita mecca Paradiso 37 already is or this new restaurant will be going in on the Marketplace side of T-Rex possibly replacing Pollo Campero and Bodie's All-American Hamburgers.

It's well known that Pollo Campero and Bodie's have never had the crowds that the former occupant, McDonald's, had. While Pollo Campero has only been opened at Downtown Disney since November 2010, which would be a surprisingly short lease, some are speculating that the lackluster sales have caused the chain to decide for an early termination. To further the speculation that the new restaurant will be taking over the Pollo Campero space the Save Pleasure Island Blog, who was one of the first to report the rumor, has pointed out that the interactive Downtown Disney Guidemap is missing a blue interactive bubble for Pollo Campero while every other business, ATM, restroom, and kiosk all still feature the interactive bubbles.
