Kennedy Space Center is about to open two new exhibits at
the Visitors Center.
Opening March 22, 2013 will be the Angry Birds Space Encounterattraction. Based on the popular app the
new exhibit will transport guests to the universe of the Angry Birds. After passing through a wormhole from our
world to the one of Angry Birds guests will be able to create their own angry
bird on a computer, solve Angry Bird themed sliding puzzle to reveal one of the
Angry Bird characters, a green screen photo area where guests can photograph themselves
with Angry Bird themed backgrounds, and play a slingshot target game where guests
will be able to launch Angry Birds at targets just like in the app. There will
also be a the Red Planet Laser Challenge and the Danger Zone mirror maze.
Then on June, 29th the new Space Shuttle Atlantisexhibit will open. The exhibit features
the Space Shuttle Atlantis placed at a 43 degree angle simulating the position
of it when it would leave the International Space Station. The payload doors will be opened and the
robotic arm extended, the only one of the three shuttles on display to feature
the open doors. The new exhibit will
cover the history of the space-shuttle program via 60 interactive stations
within the 90,000sq ft facility. The entrance
to the exhibit will feature a 184 foot tall full-size, upright, replica
external tank and two solid rocket boosters along with a silhouette of the
orbiter.
In January the Visitors Center opened a new $16million entrance
plaza. The new exhibits and plaza
are just the beginning of a new Master Growth Plan that calls for major
additions to be built over the next ten years.
Other items in the works include a new 363ft tall Observation Tower and
new night time show.
