A show review by my friend and photographer Dan Nguyen.

Coheed and Cambria performed last Thursday to a sold-out crowd at the House of Blues.

Coheed and Cambria is a progressive rock band from Nyack, New York. The band is comprised of lead singer and guitarist Claudio Sanchez, guitarist Travis Stever, bassist Zach Cooper and drummer Josh Eppard. The band is currently on their headlining tour in support of their sixth and seventh studio albums The Afterman: Ascension and The Afterman: Descension with opening acts Between the Buried and Me and Russian Circles.

Coheed and Cambria played a chilling almost 2-hour set performing songs including "Key Entity Extraction II: Holly Wood the Cracked" , "Goodnight, Fair Lady" , "Pretelethal" and "The Afterman". The album Afterman: Descension has only been released a few weeks ago but yet the crowd knew every song, word for word and sang along with frontman Claudio Sanchez throughout the night. Sanchez mesmerized the audience with not only his 70's style hairstyle but with his great vocals and his amazing skills at playing the ukulele. Guitarist Travis Stever, bass player Zach Cooper and drummer Josh Eppard provided amazing instrumentals. The highlight of the show was during the encore when Sanchez whipped out his twelve-string guitar and played it over his head during their classic songs “Wake Up” and “Welcome Home".

Besides the band's amazing stage presence, the stage's set up for the show was very appealing with an epic light show that consisted of visual effects from the band's logo on the back-drop, two featureless mannequins adding wonder to the scene and a sonic voice drone that was illuminated by an hourglass-type fixture to help the transition from one song to the next. The stage's set up created an exciting and thrilling atmosphere.

Overall, the show was a great night of awesome music and Coheed and Cambria put on a superb performance. Coheed and Cambria continues their headlining tour with Between the Buried and Me and Russian Circles until March 16th.
