Wawa Winter Park Breaks Ground, Plans For Double The Amount of Concrete Needed For Lot

By Ken Storey

Wawa recently broke ground on yet another new store for the area.  This one found on Orlando Ave just south of Lee Road has been in the works since at 2011.  The 6,119sq ft convenience store and gas station will offer their signature hoggies around the clock.  The lot is much larger than a typical gas station lot.  Based on the size building there is only 25 required spaces yet Wawa will put in 59 spaces, due to the access property.  It's ashamed that part of this couldn't have been restored as a pocket park with picnic tables, it would've been a great place to enjoy their hoagies from.

How much parking does one gas station really need?

One good thing is that this Wawa means that the Fleming's Steakhouse next door will have another entrance into it's parking lot helping relieve the congestion that often occurs there.  A small group of trees towards the west side (back side) of the property have been preserved.  Also a major 30 to 40ft landscaped buffer will be along Orlando Ave.  This landscaped area will feature eight large palm trees surrounding by natural style curving bed with small sod patches in the front.  From the renderings this looks to be one of the best landscaped Wawas around with the gas pumps nearly blocked by the landscaping.

Along with the main access from Orlando Ave the property also has rear access from Webster Ave.
