When Hue, which original designers (though later denied) claim stood for Hip Urban Eclectic, opened in 2001 the neighborhood was just beginning its transformation into the lovely district it is today. The restaurant quickly made a name for itself. In 2003, it was was named a '75 Hot Tables – Best New Restaurants in the World' by Conde' Nast Traveler Magazine, the only Orlando restaurant to ever win this award.
On weekends, the large patio wrapping around the outside at the corner of Central Ave and Summerlin Ave, would be packed with diners. The last few years, though, as new restaurants fill the downtown core, the crowds appear to have slimmed. There have been rumors for sometime now that it would be closing.
On May 6, 2013 the restaurant announced it would be closed for lunch on weekdays and encouraged patrons to instead visit Cityfish that's located a few doors down.
The news of HUE shutting down comes on the heels of another restaurant just a few short blocks away also shutting down. Prickly Pear in Eola Square has shut down restaurant operations and is now an events only space.
