Construction Update: 7-Eleven at Fern Creek Ave & Colonial

By Ken Storey

The 7-Eleven at the corner of Colonial and Fern Creek is quickly going up. The building’s exterior is now almost complete and the pump area overhang is up and already has the 7-Eleven strips. This is a smaller, ‘urban’ format store much like the one recently opened at the corner of Edgewater and Colonial.

Unlike the gas station/scooter store/whatever it was that was there before the new 7-Eleven is directly at the corner of Fern Creek and Colonial giving the area a more dense feeling. This also provides two pedestrian only entrances directly off of the sidewalk. The gas station features a rough block façade instead of the typical stucco. The façade makes the building look more permanent look than some of the other 7-Elevens in the area.

Windows on three sides of the building, which the city regulations say will have to mostly remain unblocked and non-tinted, give the former dead corner a much more dynamic look now. The new store will be open 24hrs helping provide some bright lights to a formerly dark corner.
