Winter Park SunRail Construction 55% Complete

By Ken Storey

We checked in on the Church Street Station (CSS) SunRail station last week.  That station just received its awnings that passengers will sit under while waiting for the train.

Today let's take a look at Winter Park's SunRail station.

Despite the lack of the awnings, the Winter Park station is about 55% complete compared to CSS's which is about 50% complete, according to SunRail.com.

Winter Park's station includes a $2 million remodel of the Amtrak station already there.  The station, like the CSS one, will have no designated parking. A parking survey is being looked at by the city. Some parking solutions are being looked at by the city, including a multi-level garage next to the station with retail, a theatre and offices.

The train station is actually located directly in the middle of Central Park on Park Ave.  A $25,000 sculpture, known as Tree Whispers, by artist Diane Gillet Boswell will greet passengers to the station.

Carshare and bikeshare programs, piggy backing on similar Orlando efforts, will have a location in the city parking lot just to the west of the Sunrail station.

North of Morse Blvd, the station will contain this platform that will be used for Amtrak more than SunRail
New crossing masts are being installed so that this station can eventually become a silent crossing
The new station goes better with Winter Park's current style than the current mid-century station.

A pedestrian crossing will go here, notice the set-up for the crossing masts in the middle.
