While most of the focus of Orlando's non-major league sports teams has been on the impressive Orlando City Lions, the Solar Bears have been impressive as well. After finishing the 2012-13 season with an average of 6,668 fans per game, including an incredible seven games with over 8,500 fans, the team has recently scored a major All-Star game for the city. In late June Orlando was chosen to be the 2015 ECHL All-Star Game.
The mid-season game, taking place locally January 21 , 2015, has become a showcase of the who's who of the league, producing more than 60 players that go onto the National Hockey League. The game is attended by representatives of both the NHL and the American Hockey League. The game also typically is covered on national broadcast, such as SirusXM and the NHL Network.
