Celebration of Harry Potter January 2014 at Universal Orlando

By Ken Storey

With the Anaheim D23 Expo getting the social media love, Universal Orlando made sure to get some for themselves.  We posted Sunday, August 11 that the new Simpsons spinner ride Kang & Kod's Twirl 'n' Hurl had finally opened.  Even bigger than the much anticipated last major segment of the new Springfield is the 3-day event that Universal has announced for January 2014.

The "Celebration of Harry Potter" is the closest thing to a Potter exclusive Comic-Con.  The event will co-hosted with Warner Brothers, a sign that the two companies are on good terms at least when it comes to one of WBs franchises. While most of the activities will be open to regular park guests some of the weekends activities will be reserved for those who buy weekend packages.

Some of the events of the weekend include:
  • Multiple Q&A sessions with filmmakers and actors
  • A wand master class with Paul Harris, the wand trainer for the films
  • an exclusive nighttime reception
  • a film tribute.
Weekend packages, including on-site hotel, start at $675; off-site hotel packages start at $395 per person.

Universal Studios is also in the midst of building the next phase of the Potterverse with Diagon Alley in their Universal Studios theme park. A unique train themed ride will ferry park visitors between the new section and the original Wizarding World of Harry Potter found next door in the Islands of Adventure park.
