Hosts of the DJ-themed Pop-Up party, The Movement, will partner with Enzian Theatre for a free screening of Doin’ it in The Park, the award-winning film directed by The Movement’s next featured guest DJ, Bobbito Garcia. The screening will take place at The Orange Studio, a 4,000 sq. ft. photography studio in the Mills50 district on Saturday, September 14th. The film begins at 7 p.m. and concludes with a Q&A session with the director-DJ.
Admission for film screening is free and open to the public.
Doin’ it in the Park: Pick-Up Basketball, NYC is an independent documentary that explores the history, culture and social impact of New York’s summer basketball scene. The film was chosen as critics pick by The New York Times and awarded by numerous film festivals. Director Bobbito Garcia, also known as DJ Kool Bob Love, is iconic in the world of music, basketball and sneaker culture. He was the host of The Stretch Armstrong & Bobbito Show, considered the best hip-hop show of all time and a member of The Rock Steady Crew. Bobbito Garcia is also a broadcaster for ESPN, emcee for the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest and announcer on NBA video games. He published a book on sneaker culture, hosted his ESPN show, It’s the Shoes and designed limited edition shoes for Nike and Adidas. Bobbito continues to deliver his trademark blend of music on his current radio show, The Bobbito Garcia Show.
Orlando-based DJ Collective, Lazy Afternoon, have hosted their pop-up party The Movement since February of 2012. The party consists of presenting world-class DJs, sometimes as surprise guests, in different venues spontaneously throughout the year. Their archive includes Questlove of the Roots, Maseo of De La Soul, DJ Spinna and Rich Medina, among others. The Lazy Afternoon duo, Jonathan Santino and Danny Venegas, launched the party after imagining a conscience alternative to Orlando nightlife that harkened back to iconic dance parties and cultural movements.
