Contributing WriterChildren of all ages joined in on the Cardboard Art Festival's Kids Camp sponsored and ran by Orlando Fringe Kids Fringe team Sunday. Fun was had and creativity was flowing. The Kids Camp provides lots of cardboard and art supplies. Team members for Kids Fringe are there to help and inspire the builder's.
Genevieve Bernard, director of Kid's Fringe said this year attendance was around 125 kids along with 90 adults to the festival. Genevieve adds, " There were structured and unstructured cardboard activities as to appeal to all brains! I loved that parents and kids worked together! And that a kind of beautiful chaos was created when kids and parents gathered their supplies from the robot imagination creation station, made a workspace and created art! One family, the Young family all worked together to create an installation. One kid and her mom made a fabulous pink house for a unicorn. Another child wove many rubber bands together to create a swing for her cardboard octopus; The octopi were a huge hit! Castles, cars, and robots, of course! One mom made a bustier for herself! Eyeglasses, mustaches, you name it!
I loved how people worked together and how recycled materials and creativity were the name of the game. I loved that there were no electronics, nor instruction manuals. Creative brains at work!"
Kids Camp would not be complete without a visit from our friends Dog Powered Robot! DPR was definatly a highlight of the morning!
