Free Documentary Series at Valencia East Part of Conversation on Peace and Justice

Valencia College East Campus (701 N. Econlockhatchee Trail, Orlando, FL 32825) will host a series of five free documentary films January 25-31 at 6pm as part of its weeklong Conversation on Peace and Justice. Each film will be followed by a panel and audience discussion.

The films:

  • Monday, Jan. 27, 6 p.m.: “For The Bible Tells Me So,” an award-winning documentary that examines how five Christian families – including those of former Rep. Richard Gephardt and Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson – handle the realization that they have a gay child. Valencia College East Campus, 701 N. Econlockhatchee Trail, Orlando. Building 5, room 112.   • Tuesday, Jan. 28, 6 p.m.: “Food Inc.” examines how the nation’s food supply is controlled by a handful of corporations and the impact that may have on consumer health, the livelihood of farmers and the environment. Valencia College East Campus, 701 N. Econlockhatchee Trail, Orlando. Building 5, room 112. Admission is free.
  • Wednesday, Jan. 29, 6 p.m.: “A Place at the Table,” a documentary about hunger in America, shows how hunger poses serious economic, social and cultural implications for the United States. Valencia College East Campus, 701 N. Econlockhatchee Trail, Orlando. Building 5, room 112. Admission is free. (Guests are asked to bring non-perishable food items for Pooky’s Pantry, Valencia’s food pantry for students.)
  • Thursday, Jan. 30, 6 p.m.: “Boyz N the Hood,” a classic, hip-hop coming-of-age drama set in Los Angeles is director John Singleton’s award-winning portrayal of inner city life. The film follows three friends growing up together and their different approaches to the tough lives they face. Valencia College East Campus, 701 N. Econlockhatchee Trail, Building 3, Room 113. Admission is free.
  • Friday, Jan. 31, 6 p.m.: “Living for 32” tells the story of Colin Goddard, who survived the 2007 massacre on the Virginia Tech campus and was the only person in the building to call the police. The documentary is dedicated to the 32 victims in the Virginia Tech shooting and the 32 people killed by guns every day in the United States. Valencia College East Campus, 701 N.
