The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), is holding a public hearing regarding planned capacity improvements along State Road 423/John Young Parkway in the City of Orlando, Orange County.
The project involves widening John Young Parkway from a four-lane divided roadway to a six-lane divided roadway. The project extends from Colonial Drive to Shader Road, a distance of 2.35 miles. It also includes curb and gutter improvements, addition of bicycle lanes, and sidewalk improvements. Access management changes include modifying four median openings from full openings to directional openings, closing one median opening, and moving one median opening to the south. This project is currently not funded for construction.
The hearing is scheduled for Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the Church in the Son – 4484 North John Young Parkway, Orlando. When driving northbound on John Young Parkway, take the ramp to Lee Road, and make a u-turn under the bridge. The hearing begins with an open house at 5 p.m., where participants may review project documents and discuss the project with FDOT and consultant staff. There will be a brief presentation at 6 p.m., after which participants may provide comments to all present, and then the open house will continue until 7 p.m.
This project is currently in the design phase and this hearing serves as input for design as well as access management changes.
