If you can scrape together a few Euros, we suggest checking out MVRDV's architectural rethink of the food market, Markthal Rotterdam, in Rotterdam. The Netherlands made DesignMuseum.org's 2015 Designs of the Year and we are adept to agree. The Market Hall basts an enormous structure which combines food, leisure, living and parking, fully integrated to enhance a bevvy of different functions. A secure, covered square emerges beneath an arc, conceived as an inversion of a typical market square and its surrounding buildings. During the day it serves as central market pass through but after hours the hall becomes a covered, artfully lit public space. (More Photos)
