Artists are invited to submit their work for the inaugural exhibition of “Sculpture on the lawn”, an outdoor temporary collection to be displayed at the Orange County Administration Center located in heart of Downtown Orlando, Florida.
This project is open to experienced professional sculptors and students who specialize in the design, construction and installation of outdoor sculptures.
The sculpture should be created of material appropriate to an outdoor environment and must be of suitable construction that will last with minimal maintenance and be appropriate for public viewing. As you know, Orlando has a sub-tropical climate and is hot and humid with an intense sun and seasonal heavy rain. Problems with rust and fading should be avoided. Resistance to high-speed winds is important.
Up to four sculptures will be selected for the first exhibit to be displayed from July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016. Work will be sited on the Orange County Administration Lawn along Rosalind Avenue. One (1) of the four (4) sculptures will be selected from a student/emerging competition.
Each artist will be awarded $3,500.00 to help offset any necessary transportation, installation and/or housing costs. No other compensation will be provided.

Artwork must be structurally sound and able to withstand an outdoor environment in a largely un-supervised area, and not protected from weather or curious hands or over-eager urban revelers.
Installation: The County will pour concrete pads as necessary. Sculpture must have steel plate on the bottom which can be spot welded. Other variations for securing the sculpture can be negotiated.
Selection Panel: Panel will consist of the committee and the financial sponsor
Honorarium: Each artist selected will $3,000 to be paid upon installation and $500 paid upon removal.
Insurance: The County will insure the artwork up to its stated value or $50,000, whichever is less, for theft or major vandalism. The artist will be responsible for any repairs needed due to fabrication defects.
Size: There is a six foot minimum height preference
Application: Each artist may enter up to three pieces for consideration. Submit CD or email four images of each piece you are proposing. Each image should depict a different view of the sculpture. If surface detail is an important feature, please include a close-up. Each image must be in jpeg format no larger than 1MB in size, numbered and labeled with title and artist name. Images must be individual jpegs, not embedded in a PowerPoint or other presentation program. Annotated list of the images must be numbered and in the same order as on the CD or email and must include artist’s name at top of page. For each sculpture include title, medium, size sales price, and any other information pertinent to the decision including installation recommendations. Emails can not be larger than 10 MB. Indicate if you are a student or emerging artist.
Sales: Any sales inquiries will be forwarded to the artist or designated agent. No commission will be charged. Sculpture must remain on its Orlando site until June 2016.
