Boy Kong Mural Erased From Mills50 Bar

O

On February 23rd, we told you that local street artist Boy Kong had added a brand new mural in the Milsl50 District, this time on the little bar known as St Michaels Tavern.

Watch a time lapse video of the mural being created, filmed by Featurist Orlando:  https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Gv91iXsdtz4&feature=youtu.be

Last week we were told it had been removed and covered up. We stopped by to take a look and sure enough, it's true. The large pink hippo is gone, replaced with the logo for an interactive theatre show taking place inside the bar in March and April called Joe's NYC Bar.

But it's not all doom and gloom.

We spoke with people familiar with the bar, and it turns out the bar was constantly getting guests coming in thinking it was the BBQ restaurant down the street called Pig Floyds. This was caused by the mural according to our sources. Also, the mural was never meant to be permanent. It was painted for a special event. And, we hear the walls might have a "permission wall" vibe in the future, letting local artists paint murals that remain up for a limited amount of time before another artist paints over it. So it's not all bad.
