The month of May is known nationally as Historic Preservation Month and as part of this month, on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at 10:30am, the City of Orlando is launching a Historic Plaque Program at Wells’ Built Museum of African American History & Culture (511 West South St) y o celebrate, preserve and recognize some of Orlando’s historic buildings and sites in the Downtown and Parramore area.
On Thursday, May 28, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer will join with Senator Geraldine Thompson to launch the program and will unveil one of the first plaques located at the historic Wells’ Built Hotel, which now operates as a history museum.
The program will eventually include a total of 25 plaques that will be highlighted as part of the City’s Historic Walking Tour. All the plaques will be installed by the end of June.
The program aligns with the vision strategy outlined by Project DTO to celebrate Orlando’s diverse culture and heritage by creating a strong sense of place that respects the community's history.
