I-4 Ultimate project announces two closures planned for July 7

The South Street on-ramp to eastbound Interstate 4 (I-4) and Orlando parking Lot 9, located under the I-4 overpass at the southwest corner of Garland Avenue and Pine Street, are scheduled to close the night of Tuesday, July 7.

The permanent ramp closure of the South Street entrance ramp is necessary for the reconstruction of the I-4 interchange at State Road 408, one of Florida's most heavily traveled. The I-4 Ultimate project team suggests alternate on-ramps at Anderson Street and near the intersection of Garland Avenue and Concord Street.

Lot 9, part of the City of Orlando’s parking operations will also be closing for ongoing construction activities. Lot 10, located adjacent to Lot 9, will be partially closed at a later date to be determined. During construction, at least 25 percent of the total parking spaces under I-4 will remain open. The Florida Department of Transportation is coordinating with the City of Orlando to ensure community members and business owners are aware of the upcoming closures. The project team is conducting door-to-door canvassing of the area to remind residents and businesses of these closures and answer questions. In addition to detour signs and variable message boards in the areas, information about ramp closures is included on I4Ultimate.com and weekly construction alerts sent to more than 6,400 motorists who have signed up for the service online.

The I-4 Ultimate project is rebuilding 21 miles of Interstate 4 from west of Kirkman Road in Orange County to east of State Road 434 in Seminole County, adding two new dynamic tolled Express Lanes in each direction, replacing more than 140 bridges, reconfiguring 15 major interchanges and reconstructing the entire roadway.
