Monday June 22nd was the first day of demolition on the Mt Vernon Inn (110 S Orlando Ave, Winter Park, FL 32789). Not much was demolished: only one corner of the front building was ripped down. Employees on hand said it will be days before the entire building is gone and that one corner was all they had scheduled to work on that day.
In it's place (by Summer 2016 according to construction employees on site) will be a walkable shopping center with a back parking lot and three restaurants: Ra Sushi (photos), Chuy's (photos) and Coopers Hawk Winery & Restaurant. Parking will wrap behind the existing Italio's and will include one 2-level parking structure.
Below are photos and video from the first day of demolition and a several showing the state of the hotel on Sunday June 21, the day prior to demolition day.
Orlando Sentinel recorded the full 45 minute June 22nd demolition work.
